Bali Bound! April 6th - 17th

For the fall break me and three others took off for Bali! The other three were Kayla, Marc, and Keller. A good mix of kids that's for sure. We got a lift up the 5th and crashed in the airport where I watched Naruto all night killing time. We launched into Bali on a 5 hour plane ride. the air was humid, the weather warm, and we were wide eyed loving it! step one getting in was finding our first air bnb. Having being hackled by a gaggle of taxi drivers we set off on a nice 1.5 hour drive to our first place of stay. not a bad spot in Uluwatu. That day of being there we went to these "monkey temples" that were these ancient cliffside temples with monkeys running around (how descriptive right?). As Kayla pined for her sunsets, Keller and I went to see a fire dance. Which we thought was just like a 20 min ordeal, but no it was a full on play that lasted about 2 hours. It told the Hindu's Romeo and Juliet tale where Keller ended up being brought up on stage dancing with one of the "beasts" haha Keller is a 6'2 pasty white guy from Wisconsin, so he dwarfed most of the people and stuck out like a sore thumb. The show was crazy, there was a 72 man choir humming in the ancient rhyme of the Bali culture with these chicks, beautifully dressed up, dancing the tale. At the end they had the "white monkey" surrounded in fire as the sun set and he kicked these balls of fire all over almost igniting a guy in the crowd! Later that night we went to this club where there was a massive out door pool party and people just going nuts. The others weren't into it so we weren't there long. Bali was a lot of traveling where we did not stay at the same place twice (well one place twice) but none the less we squeezed a lot in. I won't drag on the blog with day by day events, just the high lights as they pop into my head. WE SWAM WIH MANA RAYYYYSSSS. Holy shit that was cool. snorkeled an underwater buddha temple, rode mopeds on the nusa islands, crashed a moped on the nusa islands, did some cliff jumping, ate amazing food! We also did a killer sunrise hike a top an active volcano where we praised the sun. Drank a lot of Bintang (the bud light of Bali), went to a massive water park where the slide shot me so fast it flayed the skin off my left calf. We also did this crazy hike down the side of this cliff to an amazing beach called clingclang. the waves there were so massive and so close to the shore I was scrubbing sand outta my scalp for the next three days. Bali was awesome and well spent. The traveling every day got old quick though and if done again i'd not move across the island everyday. The other thing to bring to attention was the amount of litter. It was severely polluted and quite upsetting. When we snorkeled with the manta trash would literally float into our hands it was so prevalent. That's why I tried to grab as much as I could. It was also really interesting to be in a Hindu society where temples and offerings to spirits were everywhere. I loved picking the Balinese peoples brains about their religion and systems. Just so different from western Christian culture, I love it. Anyways Bali was complete and we blasted back arriving the morning of the 17th, my birthday!
