Southern Corss University May 6th - 12th

Southern Cross University has got to be one of the coolest campuses I've been to. And I know one of the main reasons for that is it is in Australia where exotic plants and animals are resident here. The campus has a Koala sanctuary, a mini lake with all sorts of bird life, and a botanical garden around that lake. The campus is small and has a very diverse selection of people there ranging from all ages. Unlike American universities, where most everyone is from 18-21, here it felt more like a community college. Southern Cross had a great library which was central to the campus. Outside of the library was the university plaza. it was an open courtyard area with small restaurants/ convenience stores surrounding it. the plaza had room for various events that were held during the semester. Every Wednesday there was live music and free food. Several times there were these flea market events, and then there were also arts and craft events where you got to do things like plant a plant in a beer mug haha. Just south of the plaza was the uni bar. This was a full on restaurant equipped with pool tables, a stage, and a bar. Held here were bingo nights, open mic every Wednesday, karaoke, and bar parties like the silent disco which was held in the attached room where body balance would take place. the silent disco was a hoot! There were three DJ's playing three different types of music. Everyone had headphones that could be dialed to the different DJ stations. You could tell what other people were listening to by the color of the headphones that would change to correspond to each DJ. It was pretty hectic and when you took off your headphones everyone looked a bit looney. The uni bar was also attached to the gym which had a pretty diverse selection of classes you could take. They also had a pool there too to do laps. The campus was moderately hilly and just absolutely beautiful. I mean the plant life there was so abundant and green. And after a fresh light rain it smelt so amazing. Maybe i'm a nerd for those sort of sensations, but I definitely did not mind being on campus. Our walk to it was all down hill and took 10-15 to get to class. A beautiful walk, but a big pain coming back up. A lot of steps and it was pretty grueling after an intense day at the gym. Well I know I was going to talk about the class work, but I felt I should give a good description of the school and I rambled haha. Next time i'll fill you in on what project i'm working on and how that has been going.
